VI Regions of BDO.
The Sixth Region encompasses what until 1973 were the provinces of O'Higgins and Colchagua. The former province of O 'Higgins (current province of Cachapoal) was as Head of State of Emergency Zone Commander Infantry Regiment Membrillar of Rancagua, and the province of Colchagua (current provinces of Colchagua and Cardinal Caro) was under the command of Infantry Regiment Colchagua San Fernando.
In this region, most of the detentions occurred between 1973 and 1974. Along with the detainees largest cities, Rancagua and San Fernando, there is a large number of people who were in the towns of Peumo, Marchigüe, Las Cabras, Pichidegua, Requínoa, Rengo and Santa Cruz, especially rural areas.
According to data provided by respondents, between 1973 and 1974, the regiments and public prisons were places where he spent much of detainees. Between 1975 and 1976, all the prisons of the Sixth Region were used as places of permanent or temporary imprisonment. From 1977 to 1990 there were political prisoners in jails in Rancagua and San Fernando.
Bury The accounts agree that in this region, between 1973 and 1975, police conducted most of the arrests, especially in rural areas, so that police stations in towns and holdings and checkpoints in the small towns and towns were the first venues in which continued detention of prisoners. The statements also indicate that police abused and beat detainees. From the places mentioned political prisoners were transferred to other interrogation centers and prisons.
also the headquarters of Investigation were also prisons of political prisoners, not only during 1973, when they focused most of the arrests, but also from 1974 to 1990, which, although fewer people were arrested, held such as permanent and regular.
Several times between 1974 and 1977, from the sites mentioned above, especially from Rancagua Research Headquarters, the detainees were transferred to facilities of the DINA in Santiago. From 1977 to 1990, they moved to premises of the CNI in the Metropolitan Region.
consists of the testimony that the region has at least two campuses of the DINA, for which there is little background. The complainant stated that between 1974 and 1977 the DINA also operated on military sites, especially in the Regiments Membrillar and Colchagua.
is important to note that from the year 1974 found a considerable reduction in arrests, especially in rural areas. Then in the 80's, particularly in the years 1984, 1986 and 1988, there was an increase in arrests in urban areas.
In the eighties the arrests were made by police, the Police Department and the CNI, which sometimes operated together especialmente con Investigaciones.
Proporcionalmente, los precincts that accounted for the largest number of political prisoners in the region were the regiments of Rancagua and San Fernando, and the prisons of these same cities.
testimonies agree that the detainees in small towns and rural areas, after being detained in the local holdings and seals were taken to a police station, military barracks or directly to the city jail haul destinations. Was recorded in the complaints to the Commission that these prisons were the most detainees held throughout the military dictatorship.
Rancagua Prison was the site that recorded Most detainees of the Sixth Region, because in the first months of military rule had brought political prisoners from around the country, especially Santiago.
In these areas were subjected to a strict prison regime
discriminatory, with severe punishment. From prison, the detainees were continuously transferred to the military prosecutor for questioning.
According to records filed with the Commission, it was possible that the Police Department Communications (DICOMCAR) and the Police Intelligence Service (SICAR) were the other agencies operating in the Sixth Region, worked either inside stations and Rancagua San Fernando and sometimes operated in conjunction with the CNI.
From the testimony received were identified and compiled a history of 70 precincts of imprisonment and torture of the Sixth Region.
